Gel Printing at Book Arts

Gel plate printmaking is a newer method that involves layering up paint on a soft, gelatinous plate. This class will cover the basics of printmaking using a gel plate and how to use different texture, masking, image transfer and stenciling methods to make prints. Gel printing is like collaging with paint, you can mix many layers of textures and imagery to make a new composition. This method is extremely beginner friendly.

Things to note:

• Makers of all skill levels are welcome. This class is suitable for ages teen+. No pre-requisites required.

• All necessary tools to participate are provided.

Lace Textured Pottery Workshop

Learn how to handbuild your own unique mug! During the workshop participants will be guided by an experienced pottery instructor and Foundry tenant, Emma Brittain of Black and Birdy Pottery. Emma will provide step-by-step instructions and demonstrations. Participants will learn the fundamentals of working with clay, including preparing and rolling out slabs, shaping, attaching handles, and refining the form to create a functional and visually appealing mug. We will not be using pottery wheels in this class.

This workshop is suitable for beginners with no prior pottery experience. Participants will have the opportunity to select from a variety of lace patterns or bring their own lace fabric to create a unique design. By the end of the workshop, participants will have handcrafted their very own slab-built lace-imprint mug, It will go into the kiln and be ready for pick up at a later date. All mugs will be glazed in a glossy white on an off-white stoneware clay body. Finished products will be food safe, but handwashing is suggested due to the delicate nature of the pottery.

Class Cost: $60 (materials fee included)

Class Size: Min 4
